Glo Preschool Tezpur kids celebrate the joy of giving on Bapu’s birthday

Preschool kids, aged 2-5 celebrated Daanutsav, the festival of giving, by making 250 sandwiches and distributing them to people they wanted to thank in the streets.

The event was organized by Glo Preschool Tezpur. Tirth Raj, the preschool’s director says, “It’s important to teach empathy to our children starting from the very beginning. They need to understand that the world that we live in is very diverse and we, as a society, should strive to help the ones who are less fortunate than us.” The event, which was called “Seva Sandwich”, was attended by over 50 people. The volunteers contributed bread loaves, cucumbers, ketchup, butter etc. to make sandwiches and then prepared the sandwiches in the school. Kids also contributed in the assembly line, efficiently churning out sandwiches reaching an impressive 250 sandwiches.

The volunteers and kids then headed to different places in the town, like Civil hospital, Mahabhairav Temple, and Main Road to distribute these sandwiches to the people they wanted to thank or who they thought were in need. They distributed sandwiches to traffic policemen, rickshaw pullers, patients in the hospital, beggars on the street, ATM guards and others.

DaanUtsav (earlier called the Joy of Giving Week) is India’s ‘festival of giving’. Celebrated every year from October 2 to 8, during DaanUtsav people perform acts of kindness by giving their time, material or money in interesting ways to any cause(s) they believe in.
