Finding the Right Balance

Building Social Skills in Preschoolers Through Play

Making friends, taking turns, and understanding others’ feelings — these are key life skills that start developing in preschool.
Children learn these not through lectures, but through play.

How Play Builds Social Understanding
1. Cooperative Games: Sharing toys or solving puzzles teaches teamwork.
2. Imaginative Play: Role-playing as “teacher” or “doctor” helps kids see different perspectives.
3. Outdoor Play: Builds negotiation, patience, and leadership.
4. Storytelling Circles: Encourage listening and empathy.

The Parent’s Role
– Model polite behavior: “Please,” “Thank you,” and active listening.
– Encourage group playdates.
– Discuss emotions: “How do you think your friend felt when…?”

At Glo Preschool
We use structured and free-play sessions that help children express emotions safely, cooperate with peers, and develop empathy and communication.

Play is not just fun — it’s the foundation of emotional intelligence.
